The love seat has been around a long time, but it has recently risen in popularity. The result of this is that there are many more styles now available on the market. Manufactures and designers are also promoting the new combination of sofas & loveseats rather than the traditional sofas and armchairs. The love seat has had many revivals which means that there are plenty of different styles to choose from. However, sometimes you may not find what you expect when looking at sofas & loveseats.
Here is our guide to the three most popular styles you will come across.
1. The S-shaped loveseat. Many people believe that this is the only true loveseat style. The back of the seat is shaped as an S instead of straight as with most seating. This allows two people to be sitting facing each other while still side by side. The back curves around the back of each of the people on the seat and then weaves between them. This means that the seating position allows for intimate conversations, while keeping the occupants suitably separated.
2. The settee loveseat. This is completely different to the s-shaped loveseat and is actually simply a settee for only two people. Manufacturers who want to minimise costs without reducing the size of their range are building three seater sofas and settees, then making a smaller two seater version and calling this the loveseat. With many people now having less living area they are unable to fit in a sofa and two chairs, so the sofa & loveseat combo is being marketed as a possible alternative. Also the loveseat option is popular for those living with small rooms in cities.
3. The sleeper loveseat. This is basically exactly the same as the settee loveseat, but can be pulled out to create extra sleeping space for guests. This is a great and very versatile piece of furniture for anyone who is living in an apartment and wants their space to be uncluttered yet still practical.
So buying sofas & loveseats is not as complicated as it initially may appears, it is more a matter of being prepared for the vast range of different styles which are defined as loveseats. Remember, as with all furniture which you buy be sure that you can fit it through your door and up your stairs before you part with your money.
